I live in Seattle with my husband and young son. I work as a freelance medical writer and am also completing my Masters in Public Health. For my thesis, I am conducting a survey, hopefully a fairly large one, to find out more about the lives of mothers with young children.
Since I became a mom, I have been astonished at how much my life has changed and by how overwhelmed I often feel. When I was taking classes, I tried to learn more about the experience of mothers of young children, but was surprised to find that very little research has actually been conducted in this area. As a result, very little is known about our lives as a group.
I developed this survey project to learn more about U.S. mothers of young children — how we spend our time, what our greatest challenges are, and how we feel we are doing overall. I hope that this project will provide a comprehensive portrait of the lives of U.S. women who are parenting small children. This blog is not only to help me track my progress, but is available for women who have taken my survey to visit and get updates on the work.

I just took your survey and read some of your blog. In terms of advertising your survey so you get your research done, you might want to subscribe to ABD moms with yahoo, and ask the moms there to take your survey. They’re a smart bunch of women and moms, and might consider helping you out, although they represent a class in themselves as I noted in the comments I wrote for your survey.
Good luck! Smart idea to put your ad on Brain Child’s website.

Just took your survey, sounds like an interesting study. As the mother of three children under four, I could completely relate to the challenges of work/life balance, etc. After my second child was born, i became a different person and realized that I had some postpartum issues. After seeing several therepists, it remained undiagnosed and luckily cleared up when i got pregnant with my third child. She almost died in childbirth which lead me to a PTSD diagnosis. Luckily, I have a wonderful support system without which I could not have gotten through it. Being a mother is such a wonderful experience and my children provide me with so much joy in life, but it is not without a great deal of challenges! Good Luck!
